Table football game: The double impact of leisure on the company

Yesterday, Monday, July 20, we celebrated a summer mini foosball league between Inbound Cycle and Cyberclick , two of the Cyberclick Group companies. There were 30 minutes of foosball and disconnection just before lunch, in which we all could enjoy an intense and emotional moment right at the beginning of the week. Although more than one person will wonder ‘a foosball in the company?’ The truth is that it is a fun for the work team and a strategic tool for the organization.

Who won? Actually, this is not the important factor, but rather that we all enjoy a lot, we create a feeling of union and team and, why not say it, of healthy competitiveness in this soccer game. Each company chose its representatives: Toni Arco and Héctor Borrás, for Cyberclick, and Marina Mele and Aniol Quer, from Inbound Cycle. All great soccer fans and the best of each team.

The internal anecdote of the organization could end here, but no, since with it we can learn how the most pioneering companies in business culture are built today.

Why put foosball in your company?

Today the most innovative companies are moving away from the classic way of operating of companies, where almost the only important thing was the achievement of the objectives. Now, on the other hand, the general well-being of the team and the individual also counts a lot. Why? Thus two factors are achieved:

  • People work better , feel more valued, motivated and self-realized.
  • The company achieves a more committed and working team with more enthusiasm.

Precisely, in the previous post ‘Business Culture and Team A: David Tomas in Bstartup’ it was highlighted that generating a culture based on a good work environment directly impacts the income statement . Great Place To Work says that companies that work like this grow 21% above the market average .

This is achieved by introducing incentives  that help employees create a better work environment. But, also, so that people consider their company as a second home and / or as a place where they want to go to work every day. One of the pluses is offering a leisure space , where people can freely disconnect from their routine and have a good time participating as a team. Then everyone returns to their most active and awake position.

Foosball is not the only playful option: for example, in the non-profit organization Kruger Labs , in Quito (Ecuador), they   have opted to build their new headquarters with a premise in mind “regression to childhood”. To enter the building you have to go up some steps in the form of lego blocks, there are slides, fishing nets, a climbing wall and a meeting room that is transformed into an indoor soccer field. This is a company that has taken the maximum example of creating a fun space.

What kind of leisure has your company promoted and how do you notice the beneficial effect?
